Knox Semiconductor, Inc. was founded in 1974 in Rockport, Maine as a wafer foundry supplying grown-junction silicon wafers to manufacturers of transient suppression devices and varactor diodes. The company introduced its own discrete devices in 1977, beginning with Zener diode chips, and later added axial glass package capability. Its catalogue covered varactor diodes, current limiter diodes and Zener diodes for military and commercial applications, supported by DSCC certified QML status. MicroMetrics Inc. acquired Knox Semiconductor in August 2005, MicroMetrics was acquired by Aeroflex in April 2007, and the products became part of the Metelics division of Aeroflex Microelectronic Solutions, which passed to Cobham and is now CAES.
