The 2026 automotive MCU squeeze is not the 2021 one. That was a wafer capacity problem. This one is a demand shock: ADAS, EV battery management, domain controllers, and EV inverter control all landed at the same time, and the 32-bit AEC-Q100 families that qualify for those platforms are a much narrower list than most buyers realize.
ST, Infineon, NXP, Renesas, and Microchip are all quoting 40–55+ weeks on the mainstream Cortex-M and Aurix families, with formal allocation in place across most orderable part numbers. If you're an ECU builder or Tier 1 in the middle of a launch, the only way to get material on your dock in the current window is spot channel, OEM excess, and factory pull-forwards — which is where Hybrid works.
STM32 family shortage sourcing.
The STM32 family is the workhorse of the 32-bit AEC-Q100 world outside pure powertrain, and it's where we see the highest volume of RFQ activity in 2026. The pain is worst on the H7 dual-core parts (motor control, ADAS sensor front-end) and the U5 ultra-low-power line (EV BMS satellites, TPMS). L4 for medical-adjacent automotive is also tight.

AURIX is the powertrain and safety-critical MCU for most European and Korean EV programs. Infineon's TC3xx is deep in EV inverter control, ADAS domain controllers, EPS, and BMS masters. The TC4x roadmap has slipped from Infineon's original 2025 samples into 2026 pilot builds, which pulled a second wave of buyers back onto TC3xx and stretched the queue further.
