Zilog, Inc. is an American manufacturer of microprocessors, microcontrollers, and application-specific embedded system-on-chip products, founded in 1974 and headquartered in Milpitas, California. Zilog is best known for the Z80 microprocessor and the Z8000/Z80000 processors, along with the Z8, Z8 Encore!, eZ80, eZ8, ZNEO, Z16F, and Z8051 microcontroller families that power millions of industrial, IrDA, remote-control, and legacy embedded systems still in operation today. IXYS Corporation acquired Zilog in December 2009 for US$62.4 million in cash, and Littelfuse Inc. acquired both Zilog and its parent IXYS Corporation in August 2017 for approximately US$750 million in cash and stock. Hybrid Electronics stocks and sources ZiLOG microprocessors, microcontrollers, developer kits, and legacy Z80-family parts — including obsolete devices no longer in active production at Littelfuse.
