TDK Corporation was founded in December 1935 in Tokyo, Japan as Tokyo Denki Kagaku Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Electrochemical Company) to commercialize ferrite, the magnetic ceramic material invented in 1930 by Yogoro Kato and Takeshi Takei at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
