The Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) is a cooperative activity of U.S. and Canadian government and industry participants, administered by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division since 1959, that shares technical data on parts, materials, and processes across the defense supply chain. GIDEP publishes Product Discontinuance Notices (PDNs), Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) alerts, GIDEP Alerts on nonconforming products, and reliability and maintainability data to help program offices, prime contractors, and suppliers manage electronic-component obsolescence and counterfeit risk. Membership is free to qualifying U.S. and Canadian government agencies, contractors, and suppliers, and GIDEP data is used extensively by DoD, NASA, and defense primes for last-time-buy planning and end-of-life mitigation. Hybrid Electronics monitors GIDEP alerts to help defense-supply-chain customers locate obsolete and discontinued components before they disappear from the market.
